The first waste-to-energy facility for municipal waste in Finland was completed in December 2012. The waste-to-energy facility processes 150,000 tonnes of household waste from 400,000 inhabitants annually while producing 15 MW of electricity and 45 MW of heat.
The energy produced at the facility will be equivalent to the electricity demand for 7,000 households and will cover 25 per cent of the district heating demand in the city of Vaasa.
